Cellarbrations at Maddington is now open and trading.
The Maddington Village shopping centre is coming back with an urban renewal project bringing the centre back to life. Cellarbrations Maddington is a modern liquor store opening as a feature to shoppers from in and around Maddington.
Ben Hepinstall applied for this liquor store licence, he has a background in operating retail IGAs around Perth. He contracted us to assist with the application process and handle communications with the licensing authority.
As with any liquor store licence application, submissions regarding public interest and section 36B(4) of Liquor Act were required. To satisfy the needs of section 36B(4) we researched the locality surrounding the shopping centre and relevant historical liquor licensing decisions.
In order to gauge the public opinion on this application, Canford also implemented a witness evidence strategy. Locals, nearby business owners and more were asked to provide their opinion on this proposed liquor store. One of the common sentiments that came out from the respondents was their preference to no longer have to travel out of their ordinary shopping circles just to meet their liquor store needs. Evidence such as this becomes important in putting together quality submissions.
In this application Canford also handled an intervention for the Chief Health Officer of WA who was seeking certain restrictions on the marketing and design of the liquor store. Working with our client, we were able to achieve a satisfactory outcome for the liquor licence.
We are thankful to have worked with Ben and wish him all the best with Cellarbrations.
