Boyup Brook IGA

In June of 2018, Anne from the Boyup Brook IGA reached out to Canford. At the time, she was considering completing her application for a liquor store licence herself. After a few years she decided to engage a regional lawyer to assist her with the application.

In February of 2024, Anne came to Canford asking us to assist with an objection she’d received from the local hotel, as well as an intervention from the Chief Health Officer.

In March of 2024, we reviewed the whole file and provided direction and strategy for completing the application and responding to both the objection and intervention based on our extensive experience in applying for packaged liquor licences in regional towns.

What eventuated from our initial meeting with Anne was a re-draft of her public interest assessment, inclusive of a new witness evidence strategy to bolster the strength of her submissions to the Licensing Authority. Alongside this, Canford assisted in rectifying a number of issues in the application, and commissioned a mystery shopper exercise. After lodging this, we then assisted in completing the document exchange process, which included further and closing submissions being lodged against some opposition submissions that were received.
