Located in Parkwood, Whaleback Golf Course is a public golf course operated by the City of Canning. The course has recently undergone significant renovations, including upgrades to its clubhouse and facilities, creating an enhanced experience for golfers and the wider community. With these improvements came an opportunity to further develop the food and beverage offering at the venue.
As Whaleback progressed with its redevelopment, Canford was engaged to assist the City of Canning with obtaining the appropriate liquor licence for the premises, as well as managing liquor licensing, health and planning requirements throughout their renovation process.
As part of the application for this tavern restricted licence, Canford prepared a Public Interest Assessment (PIA) to demonstrate how the proposed liquor service would meet the relevant public interest and harm minimisation requirements.
A key part of this process was obtaining objective evidence to support the application. Canford researched and assessed relevant local information, demographic data and other evidence to provide a clear and evidence-based assessment of the proposal.
This evidence was incorporated into the application to demonstrate the proposed operation of the licence and its impact on the local community.
The application was successfully determined, with the Licensing Authority issuing the licence documents for Whaleback Golf Course.
Whaleback can now trade under a tavern restricted liquor licence, supporting its enhanced food and beverage offering following the redevelopment.
For Canford, the project is another example of how we work with clients throughout the entire liquor licensing process — from reviewing the relevant requirements and preparing supporting evidence and documentation through to lodging the application and achieving approval.
