Superior Food Services is an Australian-owned foodservice distributor that has been operating for nearly 30 years, supplying a diverse range of food products to the foodservice industry. With a network of branches and business premises across Australia, Superior Food Services works with restaurants, cafés, caterers, schools, universities, healthcare providers and other foodservice operations.
As part of the continued development of its business, Superior Food Services engaged Canford to assist with introducing the wholesale sale of alcohol into its business model at its Tamworth, NSW location.
Managing the licensing process from start to finish
Canford assisted Superior Food Services throughout the entire producer/wholesaler liquor licence application process, from preparing the application and gathering the required information through to approval.
A producer/wholesaler liquor licence in NSW allows eligible businesses to sell liquor by wholesale to other licensed businesses. For a wholesale-only operation, this means liquor can be supplied to other liquor licensees such as restaurants, bottle shops and pubs.
There are a number of requirements that need to be addressed when lodging a producer/wholesaler licence application. These include preparing a floor plan showing the proposed licensed area, providing details of the premises and owner, confirming proposed trading hours, providing the relevant business and applicant information, and submitting the required supporting documentation.
Canford managed these requirements on behalf of Superior Food Services, working through the application process and responding to the requirements of Liquor & Gaming NSW as the application progressed.
Licence approved and ready to trade
The liquor licence documents were issued in September 2026, allowing Superior Foods Tamworth to begin trading under its wholesale liquor licence.
The successful completion of the application marks an expansion of Superior Food Services’ business model, with the company now able to integrate the wholesale sale of alcohol alongside its established foodservice offering.
Canford is pleased to have assisted Superior Food Services through the licensing process from start to finish, and we are continuing to work with the business on liquor licensing requirements at other locations as it expands this part of its operations.
