Groundswell Precinct Cafe
Groundswell Precinct Cafe reached out to Canford looking for assistance in with their ongoing application for a liquor licence at their venue in the Food Innovation Precinct in order to be able to expand their offerings. Groundswell Precinct Cafe customer base consists of visitors of the Food Innovation Precinct and those visiting the Peel Business Park.
Initially, the Applicant had looked to acquire a Special Facility Licence as a Tourism venue, however through further discussions with the licensing authority, the applicants intended manner of trade was deemed to lean more toward a Tavern Licence. At this point Canford were brought on board to assist with the application, with the client choosing to pursue a tavern licence.
As has often been the case for numerous applicants and new licensees, a Special Facility Licence will not be granted if the intended manner of trade for a venue can be achieved under another licence type.
Groundswell intends to provide locally produced food and liquor for sale in their cafe as well as take-away through the sale of packaged liquor. Through a witness response survey, it became clear that the community was in support of the Food Innovation Precinct having this licence.
Groundswell Precinct Cafe is a specialty WA outlet that showcases local producers in order to assist in promoting buying locally and growing WA’s food and beverage industry. The Food Innovation Precinct is also connected to growth in the WA hospitality industry. Now, they are able to add the service of liquor (both on premises and for takeaway).
This precinct is a state-of-the-art facility that fosters industry innovation to drive business growth. They are aiming to be an ecosystem of innovation that will transform Western Australia’s food and beverage manufacturing industry. The Food Innovation Precinct is located in the Peel region and is assisting in growing the Peel agri-innovation and food production centres.
