From licensing strategy to opening day
Brabham is one of Perth’s rapidly growing communities, and the development of a new hospitality venue presented an opportunity to create a much-needed destination for locals, families and visitors.
Canford was engaged early in the project to assist with the licensing strategy for the new venue, including the preparation of the public interest assessment, operational documentation and licensing submissions.
As the project continued to progress, the ownership of the venue changed, bringing a new phase of licensing work with it.
Canford was engaged to manage and coordinate the transfer application, including the transfer of rights documentation, director suitability material, lease and ownership documentation and supporting submissions to the Licensing Authority.
A complex process, managed from start to finish
The licence transfer involved much more than simply moving a licence from one operator to another. With settlement and the venue’s opening approaching, there were a number of approval and compliance requirements that needed to be coordinated along the way.
As the venue moved closer to opening, we also assisted with the final licensing conditions, including the preparation of the Harm Minimisation Plan, approved floor plans, incident register requirements, mandatory training records, signage and other operational compliance requirements.
The project required ongoing communication between all parties to ensure approvals, settlement timelines and licensing requirements remained aligned as the venue prepared to commence trade.
After navigating the transfer and final compliance process, approval to settle was issued by the Licensing Authority, the transferred licence was fully granted and the relevant licence documents were issued.
This allowed Brabham Hotel to commence trading under the tavern restricted licence, with the venue officially opening to the public in late July 2026.
It was a great result for everyone involved and marks the delivery of a significant new hospitality venue for the rapidly growing Brabham community — providing a new local destination for dining, drinks and family gatherings.
