Bottle-O Boyup Brook
Anne Thompson, General Manager of IGA Bottle-O Boyup Brook, reached out to Canford in March of 2024 to assist with some unfavourable trading conditions on her proposed liquor store licence that required amending. Further, Anne required assistance with a formal response to an intervention received from the Chief Health Officer regarding her new liquor store licence application.
The Chief Health Officer intervened on the grounds that Boyup Brook has low socioeconomic standing and an increase in liquor would negatively impact the amenity of the community. The Chief Health Officer looked to impose heavy restrictions on access to the liquor store through the IGA, restricted external advertising of liquor, and having dedicated checkouts for the liquor store.
Through a document exchange process, Canford was able to argue the positive aspects of this application and the Director conditionally granted the licence in March of 2025. Bottle-O Boyup Brook will be able to offer the local community a quality liquor store that, up until this point, has been unavailable in the town. Prior to the opening of Bottle-O Boyup Brook there was only one other dedicated packaged liquor outlet in the locality.
Bottle-O Boyup Brook presents a far wider range than the only other bottleshop in town, and a proper, convenient and comfortable browsing environment. The store has since officially opened, bringing a much needed service to the town. We are proud to have been able to get this win for Anne, and we wish her the best of luck with her bottleshop.
